=Chief of SSF, Ismail Ahmadi Moqadam explained about the formation of Horse-riders Unit, Unit of Anti-riot Dogs and the employment of female police in Especial Unit.

About the formation of female units, he stated: "One of the problems we faced at the Especial Unit was that some gatherings were all-female gatherings and male agents could not enter the place so we decided to form a small all-female unit in the Especial Unit so that we can control the gatherings." 8 Prisoners Among Them One Woman Hanged in Shiraz Today- Executions Carried Out One Day Prior To The Scheduled Date

Iran Human Rights, February 19, 2013: Eight prisoners were hanged in the Adelabad prison of Shiraz early this morning. According to the official website of the Iranian judiciary in the Fars Province, 8 prisoners among them one woman were hanged this morning. The prisoners were all convicted of drug related charges said the report.

The prisoners were identified as "Lotfollah J.", "Noor Mohammad Sh.", "Abbas N.", "Hossein A.", "Parinaz M." (woman), "Hamid A.", "Abdolvahed M." and "Ali T."

Iran must ensure an effective investigation into Sattar Beheshti’s death in custody

Amnesty International is calling on the Iranian authorities to act decisively to end the continuing confusion surrounding the cause of the death in custody of blogger, Sattar Beheshti and to establish the truth of what happened.

The Supreme Leader must ensure that a thorough and impartial investigation is carried out into this and all other deaths in custody. These should be conducted in a manner that complies with international standards for such investigations.

Shabnam and Farzad Madadzadeh Banned from Visiting Each Other

HRANA News Agency – It's one year that Shabnam and Farzad Madadzadeh, brother and sister in Evin and Rajaishahr prisons are banned from visiting each other.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Shabnam and Farzad Madadzadeh with five-year sentences can visit each other in the frame of Iranian Prisons' Law, but it's one year that they are banned from visiting by the judiciary authorities.

Shabnam Madadzadeh and her brother Farzad Madadzadeh were arrested in February , 2009 and after one year of temporary arrests were sentenced to five years in prison in Evin and Rajaei Shahr Prisons.

Shabnam Madadzadeh is a member of Tahkim Vahdat, the union for Islamic associations of university students across the country. It is the largest student-dependent organization critical of the [Iranian] government.

Behrouz Ghobadi, brother of internationally acclaimed Iranian film maker, Bahman Ghobadi, was arrested on 4 November 2012 by men in plain clothes, believed to belong to the Ministry of Intelligence. He is reportedly being held in a Ministry of Intelligence detention centre, placing him at risk of torture or other ill-treatment. Behrouz Ghobadi, father of a newborn baby boy and a member of the Kurdish minority in Iran , was arrested in the early hours of the morning of 4 November. He was in a taxi driving from Sanandaj, the capital of the north-western Kordestan province, to a Tehran airport. Plain-clothes men, who were reportedly following him, stopped his car and arrested him around 15 kilometres outside Sanandaj. Judicial officials claim that they had an arrest warrant but the reasons for his arrest do not appear to have been disclosed to his family or lawyer.

C. Women‟s rights

54. Moreover, the application of certain laws that erect barriers to gender equality undermine the Government‟s ability to equally protect those human rights stipulated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights for all its citizens. For example, a woman‟s worth and testimony in a court of law are regarded as half that of a man‟s. Men have absolute rights to divorce, while women may initiate divorce
only if they meet certain conditions, some of which must be agreed to in a marriage contract. Mothers can never be awarded guardianship rights for their children, even upon the death of their husbands. Women do not have equitable inheritance rights, and even when a wife is the sole survivor to her husband‟s estate, she may not inherit more than a quarter of the estate. If she is not the sole survivor, she is limited to an eighth.
56. Moreover, strict implementation of the morality code concerning dress and attempts to criminalize improper veils have limited women‟s participation in public and social arenas. Equally worrisome are statements made by authorities that blame victims for inducing attackers to violate their physical integrity. These include reports of Government officials citing women‟s dress as the cause of recent attacks that took place in Isfahan in June 2011, where 14 women were kidnapped and gangraped while attending a private party. Government statements asserted that the women‟s dress was a source of the violence perpetrated against them and a rationale for the lack of action in bringing the perpetrators to justice

Iranian regime executes man in Qazvin Prison

A prisoner was hanged on September 3 in the Qazvin Prison yard.


According to reports, Ehsan Shabani son of Kamel from the Eslanik Village in Salmas was hanged in Qazvin Prison.

Notably, his body was handed over to his family on September 4. Officials had charged him with drug offenses.

Security forces kill protesters in Orumieh

The people in Orumieh held a demonstration in protest to the disappearance of Orumieh Lake. Protests that led to clashes with security forces with two dead and many others injured… Security forces have turned to tear gas and shooting at the protesters. According to reports from protests which started in Taleqani Street, security forces clashed with protesters. These forces also opened fire on the protesters in Taleqani and Motaheri Streets. The sounds of shots being fired can be heard throughout the city and ambulances are taking the injured to hospitals… Cellphone lines and land lines are down and the internet is also very slow. There are still no exact reports on the death toll. Last Saturday, August 28, the people in this city held protests to the drying out of Orumieh Lake which led to many arrests including the arrest of cultural activists and journalists. Three people were killed in these protests.
