Background

Ali Saremi, a 62-year-old political prisoner, was sentenced to death on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, without adhering to due legal process.

This sentence, for 'communicating with political opposition' was confirmed by the Appeals Court on 15 May 2010.

Mr Saremi sent out a message from prison warning about the intentions of the clerical regime’s leaders to carry out a massacre of political prisoners and the uprising’s detainees. So far he has been proven right and is one of the regime's next intended victims.

Mr. Saremi, who has spent a total of 23 years in the prisons of the Shah and the current regime, was last arrested in the summer of 2007 for attending a ceremony marking the 19th anniversary of the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners by the Iranian regime in 1988.

The manner of Mr Saremi's arrest was particularly cruel and inhuman. On Monday, April 20 2010, the regime put him on trial on fresh charges despite already being a political prisoner sentenced to death.

Ali Saremi is the father of one of the residents of Camp Ashraf in Iraq. The 62 year old was inhumanly taken to the regime’s court while in chains just two short days after undergoing a serious surgery. The show trial came to an end without any rulings and was ordered to resume at a later date.

The presiding judge, Mohammad Moqisseh, is a former member of the “Death Committee” responsible for the massacre of political prisoners in 1988. The subject of the proceedings was a brutal attack in September 2008 which was carried out against political prisoners by a number of dangerous inmates organized by Evin prison officials. During the show trial, Mr. Saremi protested against the new plot of prison officials and the creation of a phony case against him, as well as his exile to Karaj’s Gohardasht prison.

Please condemn and intervene to stop such cruel and barbaric violations of human rights by the Iranian regime.

Please do not stand by - sign this petition.

We, the undersigned, ask that Ali Saremi be immediately released without charge. The charges are without foundation and the process by which they were extracted both illegal and immoral.

In addition we ask the addressees of this petition to take action in condemning and intervening to stop all such illegal and barbaric executions of innocent victims of the Iranian regime.
