Senior officials of the regime’s suppressive forces have voiced trepidation over protests by the courageous people and youths of Iran on June 20, and have launched extensive measures to prevent the uprising. Some of the measures include:
• Putting suppressive forces on high alert and stationing them in operations bases since June 19.
• Organizing briefing sessions by the Deputy Office of the Intelligence of the paramilitary Bassij on June 16 and June 19 for the regime’s intelligence agents. Basing the regime’s suppressive forces on June 19 was reviewed at these sessions. Officials at the meeting also voiced concern about the activities of supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) on the occasion of June 20 and stressed the imperative for a heavier presence of suppressive forces.
• A meeting with the commander of the Sarollah Base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and rank-in-file starting from the morning of Saturday and continuing into the afternoon.• The IRGC and Bassij operation to suppress the protests on June 20 is codenamed “Imam Mohammad Baqer.”
• The command operation of suppressive forces in the fourth district of Tehran is headed by Brig. Gen. Mehdi Sabbagh, who also commands the “Fatemeh Zahra” Brigade. The commanding unit controls 6 Bassij districts in the west of Tehran and Azadi Square. Sabbagh has been cracking down on demonstrators in 4th District in recent days. Hundreds of people have been arrested by his agents.
• Brig. Gen. Manouchehri, Deputy of Operations in 10th District (Meqdad), has been transferred to the 9th District after his hand was broken during clashes with courageous youths on June 12.
