Iran's top human rights official said the Islamic regime is reviewing a sentence of execution by stoning for a woman convicted of adultery.

"Sentences such as stoning will be closely reviewed and probably changed," Mohammad Javad Larijani told Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency.

Larijani was referring to the well-publicized case of Sakineh Mohammedie Ashtiani, who faces the possibility of execution after being convicted in 2006 of adultery.

Her lawyer, Mohommad Mostafaei, told CNN that Ashtiani confessed to the crime after being subjected to 99 lashes. She later recanted that confession and has denied wrongdoing, he said.

Her conviction was based not on evidence but on the determination of three out of five judges, he added. She has asked forgiveness from the court but the judges refused to grant clemency. Iran's supreme court upheld the conviction in 2007.

Ashtiani's case has drawn international attention and many human rights activists have called for the sentence to be changed.

In London, England on Saturday, protesters waved flags and chanted anti-government slogans to the beat of a drum in front of the Iranian Embassy. They condemned executions in Iran -- by hanging and stoning.

"Stop the hanging in Iran -- now, now, now. Stop the stoning in Iran -- now, now, now."

But Larijani said protests from outside Iran will not affect Ashtiani's case.

"The Western attacks have no effect on the opinion of our judges," he told the news agency.

Larijani's comments seemed to contradict Iran's first public statement on the case made Thursday by the Iranian Embassy in London, England, which suggested Ashtiani would not be stoned.

It said "this mission denies the false news aired in this respect and ... according to information from the relevant judicial authorities in Iran, she will not be executed by stoning punishment.

"It is notable that this kind of punishment has rarely been implemented in Iran and various means and remedies must be probed and exhausted to finally come up with such a punishment," the embassy said.

Ashtiani's son, who appealed Wednesday to Iran's courts to spare his mother's life, said he won't accept any decision short of his mother's freedom.

Through human rights activist Mina Ahadi, Sajjad Mohammedie Ashtiani said he would be satisfied only when Iran's judiciary officially drops the charges against her.

Ahadi has told CNN that only an international campaign designed to pressure the Islamic regime in Tehran could save Sakineh Ashtiani's life.

"Legally, it's all over," said Ahadi, who heads the International Committee Against Stoning and the Death Penalty, earlier this week.

Ashtiani's son wrote in an open letter to government officials that there was neither evidence nor legal grounds for his mother's conviction and sentence. He said the family has traveled six times from their home in Tabriz to Tehran to speak with Iranian officials, but in vain.

"So I have no option but reaching out to them this way," he said earlier in the week.

Why, he asked, has an accused been twice prosecuted on the same charge when Islamic criminal law allows prosecution only once?

Sajjad Ashtiani told CNN that he visits his mother every Monday in jail, never knowing whether that meeting will be their last.

Report on Gatherings at Behesht Zahra Cemetery July 8th and 9th

Iran press News

On July 8, 2010, a large number of people (number reported to be over 2000) gathered at Behesht Zahra cemetery From 6:00pm-8:00pm to remember their loved ones who were killed in post-election clashes and in Kahrizak detention centre.

Jaras wrote that 18 Tir (July 9th) is also a remembrance of the “bloody uprising of students” in the University of Tehran and the attacks of plainclothes agents against students of Tehran and Tabriz universities in 1999. During the bloody events at the University of Tehran, a large number of students either disappeared or were arrested, killed, or injured. An official report was never published.

According to reports by Kanoon, on July 9th, Behesht Zahra was surrounded by police and plainclothes forces. Approximately 150 people gathered at Neda’s grave to pay their respects to the people who lost their lives in post-election protests. 100 black vehicles belonging to the regime were stationed at the cemetery in an attempt to create an atmosphere of chaos and intimidation.

According to telephone reports from Iran at 12h15 local time , people and studetns estimated to be 300, assembled in Kooye Daneshgah in front of Kosar street chanting "Students will dies but not submit to tyranny "
At 12h 40 special University guards attacked the students and people tried to help unarmed studetns by throwing objects at the armed violent guards.
Clashes continue ...
Ahwaz :

Students have gathered in front of Jondishapour Univeristy at 12h35 Local time as well as Univeristy street and Pourandokht street.
150 students have began a protests with chants "Down with Khamenei " . Reports suggest that plain clothed agents and security forces which were prepared from a couple of days ago have engaged with students to curb the protests.

Tehran staged protests On the 11th anniversary of July 9 student-led uprising, university students and people in Tehran staged protests in front of the University of Tehran and the dormitory with chants of “death to dictator” and “honorable Iranian, support us, support us.”
According to obtained reports, the first group of students started chanting “death to dictator” at around 19:00 local time in front of the dormitory, and subsequently more students joined them.
Protests spread to the surrounding areas of the University of Tehran, including Nosrat Street. The regime’s suppressive forces, especially plainclothes agents, who had been stationed in front of the campus and surrounding streets previously, attempted to prevent the formation of gatherings and chants. More than 200 plainclothes agents had assembled at the main gate alone.
According to obtained reports, unlike previous occasions, the clerical regime had increased the number of plainclothes agents considerably compared to its regular forces in order to give the impression that the situation is normal. State Security Forces (SSF) and anti-riot forces were only stationed in specific locations and were on alert.
Additionally, a chopper hovered over the area in order to monitor the area and create an atmosphere of fear. The regime, which is clearly fearful of rising protests, had brought a large number of its agents even in minor streets like Fakhr Razi to prevent the formation of demonstrations.
On the other hand, protestors assembled in groups of 20-30 people at various distances and confronted the regime’s agents.
One of the political prisoners and student activists, Majid Tavakoli, sent out a message from prison on the occasion of July 9, calling on students to continue their struggle against the clerical dictatorship.
In a part of his letter, Tavakoli says, “July 9 can be our starting point to look into the past and strengthen our resolve to quickly implement a big change. We will carry out our duty. We know that we are students and we want to keep our honor and pride. We can start this at any place.”

According to reports, two political prisoners who witnessed the torture of jailed academic Rasoul Bodaqi were summoned and threatened.
On Tuesday July 6, two prisoners who witnessed the severe beating of jailed academic Rasoul Bodaqi in June were summoned to the Inspections Department of Gohardasht Prison and were asked to state what they witnessed. The head of inspections, Reza Torabi and an agent and prison guard by the name of Tork who participated in the torture of Mr. Bodaqi were also present in the interview.
The first witness was political prisoner Abbas Tavakoli Berazjani whose brother, Amir Tavakoli Berazjani, was killed under torture in the Shapour Detention Center in Tehran. He detailed the tying up and severe beating of Bodaqi and the insults that were made against his family. While this political prisoner was detailing the torture, Tork cut into his sentence and cried out that he was lying. This prison guard then insulted him and Reza Torabi expressed satisfaction and defended the prison guard.
The second witness, Ahmad Zeid Abadi, was then brought to the Inspection Department. He was also asked to state what he saw and he said that he witnessed the beating and verbal harassment of Bodaqi. When Zeid Abadi wanted to greet his former cellmate, Tavakoli, Reza Torabi, pushed him back with disrespect and prevented the greeting.
When Tavakoli was taken back to cellblock 6, prison guard Qasem Mohammadi, aka Uncle Qasem, who was also present in the torture of Bodaqi, threatened him and said, “Thank you very much! I will be waiting for you”.
Then the head of cellblock 6, Shokri, also threatened Tavakoli that he would be sent to cellblock 1 (known for its horrible conditions and tortures). Reza Torabi, the head of inspections at Gohardasht Prison has in the past put pressure on a large number of tortured prisoners to prevent them from filing complaints and has forced them into silence

Iran's culture ministry has given its blessing to a number of 'Islamic' haircuts for men, with ponytails failing to make the list, the ILNA news agency reported on Monday.
ILNA and other agencies carried pictures of mostly clean-shaven male models sporting short hair, some styled with gel, in a 'journal of Iranian hairstyles approved by the ministry of (culture and Islamic) guidance’.
‘The proposed styles are inspired by Iranians' complexion, culture and religion, and Islamic law,' said Jaleh Khodayar, who is in charge of a 'Modesty and Veil Festival' later this month where they are to be promoted.
‘We are happy that the Islamic republic of Iran's government has backed us in designing these hairstyles,' she said, adding that a catalogue of haircuts for men would soon be published.
Iranian police carry out regular morality crackdowns, arresting and warning women in figure-hugging short coats and flimsy headscarves as well as men sporting spiky hair and tight, low-slung jeans.
The Islamic veil is mandatory in Iran, which has sought to keep defiant urban youths properly covered since the establishment of the Islamic republic over 30 years ago.
Several barber shops have reportedly been shut down and penalized in recent years for offering 'decadent Western cuts’.Conservative clerics have called for firmer action against un-Islamic dressers and hardline President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad came under fire last month for expressing OPPOSITION to a tough police crackdown on immodest attire

On Wednesday June 30, a bus which belonged to labor activist Amir Kharazi was suspiciously set on fire in the middle of the night and completely burned in the flames in Islam Shahr. Kharazi had bought this bus on a loan and when he was suspended from work because of his unionist activities, he used the bus as a means to support his family.
Three other drivers in the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company who were also unionists and suspended from work used the bus as a source of income for their families.
Before this, intelligence agents had prevented the suspended bus drivers from being hired in private companies and threatened companies to refrain from hiring suspended drivers. Amir Kharazi was arrested in 2005 after widespread strikes by the drivers in the Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company and was detained for several weeks in Evin Prison. He was also suspended from work two times. The first time he was suspended for six months for participating in a strike in 2005 and the second time he was suspended for a year for his unionist activities. A member of the special parliamentary committee for the pursuit of post-election incidents said that announcing the names of those who have been sentenced to death in the Kahrizak case at this time is against the law. (The two men were convicted of affiliations in the death of post-election protesters in Kahrizak in an Iranian court)…
In answer to a question on whether the names of these convicts would be announced when their sentences are finalized Farhad Tajari said, “That depends on the decision of the authorities and if relevant authorities think it suitable, the names of the convicts will be given to the media but publishing them at this time is against the law”… It is not clear why Farhad Tajari says that Kahrizak convicts’ names cannot be announced when their sentences have not been confirmed while the names of many people who are accused of fabricated charges by the Judiciary are not kept hidden.

P2E

Accept my greetings and gratitude.
I who write this letter, Sajjad
Ghader-zade, 22 years old, want to first of all tell you about my mother and the
way she was convicted.
My mother, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, was arrested in
the city of Oskoo on charges of adultery. She was prosecuted in the Oskoo
criminal court. My mother and Mr. Naser and Mr. Ali Nojumiha were each sentenced
to 99 lashes there, and the sentences were fully served at the executive office
on everyone convicted in this case. Then as to why the case was sent to Branch
VI of Eastern Azerbaijan retribution court in Tabriz for review, I have no idea.
Here my mother’s case was reviewed by five judges, after which Mr. Imani, the
head of Branch VI, and two of his colleagues, based on their own wisdom
sentenced my mother to death by stoning, while two others found my mother
innocent of the charges and stated this verdict clearly. Mr. Mostafaei
(Sakineh’s lawyer) says there are a lot of uncertainties and doubts in this
case.
Mr. Mostafaei refers to two judges in the panel who clearly stated that
there was neither evidence nor legal grounds whatsoever in the file to sentence
Mrs. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, and the existing indications and evidence could
not provide basis for any assumptions by the panel, and one accused should not
stand trial twice on the same charge. The case was then sent to the Supreme
Court, which unfortunately upheld the sentence. This was a summary of the case
but I want to point out other uncertainties regarding the case.
We have
traveled more than six times to Tehran to visit Mr. Larijani, Khamenei, and
Ahmadi-Nezhad, and written more than a hundred times to them but have not
received any response, so I have no option but to reach out to them this way. I
want to ask the country’s authorities a few questions and hope they hear
me.
First of all, Mr. Larijani, why has an accused been twice prosecuted on
the same charge while, even according to the Islamic criminal law, a convict
should be prosecuted for a crime once and not more than once?
Second, Mr.
Larijani, you are the head of the country’s judiciary. How come the country’s
judges do not take your orders seriously? Mr. Shahrudi had, in an amendment,
ordered the country’s judges to ban stoning sentences, yet contrary to this
order, judges still issue stoning sentences. Why, in our case for instance, did
Mr. Imani, despite lack of evidence and proof, issue a stoning sentence for my
mother? If he is motivated by his wisdom, I must ask what the basis for that
wisdom is. If he is demonstrating his wisdom, was Mr. Imani present when my
mother committed the crime against which he issues a verdict with such
decisiveness?
Third, when Mr. Mostafaei, via Mehr media outlet, interviewed
Mr. Yusefi, the general director of Oskoo’s provincial justice department, the
latter claimed that there was no sentence served in this case in Oskoo’s
jurisdiction, but I was present when this was done. I ask the head of justice
department why a judge like Yusefi, who himself issued a sentence, denies the
execution of his own verdict?
These are the three questions that should be
answered. But I, as an Iranian citizen who has not succeeded to get an audience
with your office, to you, the head of the judiciary, who through the TV networks
day in and out announces that justice must prevail and the officials guilty of
misconduct will be punished, say that there is no justice in this country, and
your justice is only as just as the misconduct of judges of the country who are
not corrected by you. I ask you: has justice been served in my mother’s case?
Can you answer to these three questions?
I ask you to send the letter of my
mother’s pardon to Tabriz and return my mother’s life back to her. I hope that
you see to it that justice in my mother’s case prevails, for thanks to your
judges’ wisdom, my mother is in a bad psychological state, and in five years has
been imprisoned without a day of permission [editor's note – a day of leave from
the prison].
I have now said all that should have been said. My mother and I
are asking the people of the world to help us, and are deeply grateful for what
has been done thus far.
Many thanks,
Sajjad Ghader-Zadeh

Every Monday, for 15 minutes, a young man speaks to his mother through prison glass. She is Sakine Mohammedie Ashtiani, and since 2006 she has been tormented by the government of Iran for “adultery.”

Ashtiani was originally condemned to 99 lashes, a sentence which was carried out in front of her 17-year-old son. Now, after re-examining her case, Iranian authorities have decided she should also be stoned to death.

To be clear, these maniacs want to throw rocks at this woman’s head until her brains are dashed out.
Treating people like this is evil. Regimes that do such things must be exposed, rattled and, at times, replaced. And in countries fortunate enough not to be subject to such brutality, we ought to recalibrate our priorities from cosy concerns like reality shows and “climate change” to the plight of our fellow human beings.

This struggle is cultural, psychological, military, and economic. Most of all, it is a test of wills. Do we have the strength to call evil by its name and resist, or will we fumble about and find reasons not to until it’s too late? Iran is only the most prominent and dangerous among the entities that oppose us, and Ashtiani’s story is one of heartbreaking thousands, chronicled by Amnesty International and others.

An opportunity existed, after the uprising that followed Iran’s stolen elections last year, for good people of the world to show their support. There was one guy in particular who could have made a difference with a single speech. Unfortunately, U.S. President Barack Obama demurred.
To understand the value that a few words from the American president can have to folks who are under repression, consider former Soviet political prisoner Natan Sharansky’s reaction to Ronald Reagan’s 1987 “Tear down this wall” address in Berlin: “That was the moment that really marked the end for them, and the beginning for us.”

On an individual basis, western nations, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, have been hopeless at protecting their citizens when they are imprisoned or unjustly treated in basket-case countries. The closest thing to a victory on this front came when Bill Clinton flew to North Korea last August to rescue two American women from the clutches of Kim Jong-il. The former president even posed for a forced photo-op in a room so hideously decorated that sanctions should be suspended until the regime has time to buy something tasteful.

So if free nations cannot protect their own people abroad, what can they possibly do for Ashtiani? And what could anyone reading this column do to help her? Perhaps, provide profile for her cause.

I’d like to see her on more T-shirts than Che Guevara. If a fraction of the energy evinced by those who showed up at the G20 in Toronto to protest the evils of “globalization” (or whatever) were instead directed toward, say, not hitting women with rocks until they die, we’d be getting somewhere. Or, if the zeal of feminists who demand the freedom to abort a child right up until he goes to his first hockey practice were pointed toward sparing their sisters from state-sanctioned death by blunt-force trauma, their help would be invaluable.

We enjoy a way of life in this part of the world. We owe our support to those who do not.

European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton urged Iran on Tuesday to stop the execution of three people including a woman who faces death by stoning for adultery.

Ashton said she was "deeply concerned" about reports that the executions of Mohammad Reza Haddadi, who was sentenced to hang for a murder he committed when he was a minor, and the woman, Sakineh Mohammadi-Ashtiani, "may be imminent."

She also renewed her call for Iran to drop the death sentence against Zeynab Jalalian, a Kurd who awaits execution for being an "enemy of God."

"I call on Iran to halt these executions and convert the sentences," Ashton said in a statement.
She called death by stoning "a particularly cruel method of execution which amounts to torture."

The sentences against Haddadi and Mohammadi-Ashtiani are in "clear violation" of Iran's international obligations under the International Covenant for Civil and Political Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Ashton urged Iran to consider a moratorium on executions.

Iran says the death penalty is essential to maintain public security and is applied only after exhaustive judicial proceedings.

Javad Moghimi in effect ended his career in his own country at the age of 23 after taking a photograph of a defiant green clad woman in front of Azadi Tower in central Tehran.
The picture came to symbolise resistance to the Ahamdinejad regime and appeared on the cover of Time almost exactly a year ago.

PHOTO: Javad Moghimi's image of the 2009 protests in Iran Photograph: Javad Moghimi for the Guardian

Moghimi fled Iran shortly afterwards. He now lives on a dusty back street in a small town in Turkey, where he has been granted asylum status.
Recounting those events to the Guardian as part of a Guardian Films and Bureau of Investigative Journalism investigation last month, Moghimi says many of his friends and former colleagues have been arrested and in some cases tortured.
Afraid to hire Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF), also known as Reporters Without Borders, a non-governmental organisation defending journalists, estimates that about 3,000 media workers in Iran are out of work after the post-2009 election crackdown by the regime. Many editors are now afraid to hire anyone who has worked for the dozens of pro-reform publications that have now been shut.
Last month, the organisation began to receive information that journalists were being summoned by the Iranian intelligence ministry to promise, in writing, that they would not participate in or cover protests during the anniversary of Mahmoud Ahamdinejad's re-election.
The Committee for the Protection of Journalists ranks Iran as the world's No 1 jailer of journalists, with 170 journalists and bloggers arrested in the past year while 37 remain in prison. RSF estimates at least 100 journalists have been forced to flee Iran since last June.
At the time of the Iranian election, Moghimi was working for the Revolutionary Guard-run press agency, Fars News.
He was assigned to follow President Ahamdinejad on the campaign trail, and it was made clear to him that he could only cover the election result. As the protesters took to the streets, he was stunned to be ordered to stay at home by his bosses.
‘They told us we can't go out and take photographs. They did not issue us with permits … They said that we are not going to be responsible if anything happens to you, we will not back you up and we will even testify against you and claim that you are spies’.
Despite these warnings, Moghimi went out and took photos of protests that became known as the green movement. 'When my photos were published I was delighted for a few moments’.
But his euphoria was short-lived. 'I was frightened and was wondering: 'What does the future hold for me?' because of these photos’.
Moghimi describes how the managing director summoned all the staff to a meeting, announcing that they knew that two photographers from Fars News had taken photos and sold them abroad, and that the culprits would be dealt with severely. With the pressure mounting, he decided to flee a few weeks later. Since the June elections and following the demonstrations in December after the holiday of Ashura, two of his colleagues have been arrested, Moghimi says. His immediate boss, Majid Saidi, is on bail awaiting trial, charged with activities against national security and taking photographs of protesters. He says his close friend Masoud Lavasani, a political correspondent for Fars News, is in prison on hunger strike.
‘He is going through hell,' says Moghimi. 'When I hear his news I get very upset and I get a lump in my throat, because ... I don't know what the future holds for news reporters and my friends in Iran.
‘Their crime was to take photographs of the protesters and the demonstrations. If the Islamic Republic of Iran is able to arrest a photojournalist charged with activities against national security or taking photographs of the protesters, it is a joke to say we have freedom of speech, because there is no freedom as long as they arrest people for the crime of taking photos of demonstrations’.
Imprisoned journalists
He has been in contact with some of his former colleagues via the internet, and what he has learned is disturbing. He has heard stories of torture, beatings, even one case of rape.
Tina Carr, of the Rory Peck Trust, which provides grants to injured or imprisoned journalists, says: 'It's incredible how tight the crackdown is on the media in Iran … It's difficult for us to even make contact to provide assistance because media workers are in danger just from talking to us’.
Moghimi is still coming to terms with the restrictions on press freedom in his country: 'I don't want to see that our young men and women are murdered or executed or to be imprisoned. I want to see the freedom that we want and deserve in Iran, so that we can return to our homeland … [I want] a photographer like me to be able to have his profession, to be able to work freely so that they don't have to resort to living in America or Europe in order to pursue their media work’.

DEMAND ACTION NOW FROM THE UNITED NATIONS FOR MOHAMMAD REZA!

On Sunday July 4, 2010, The father of Mohammad Reza Haddadi spoke to Voice of America on the news of the imminent execution of his son set for July 7, 2010. Read the details of Mohammad Reza’s imminent execution date as reported by the Committee of Human Rights Reporters.

Father: Today they delivered a notice to the home that stated “the Qesas [Death sentence] of your son will be carried out on Wednesday [July 7, 2010]. You can go visit your son for the last time on Tuesday.”

VOA: Who sent you the notice?

Father: The Court of Shapoor district.

VOA: What actions have you taken?

Father: I have no options. The Judiciary should stop the execution. There were four [individuals involved in the crime]. They were all around 25-30 years old. My son wasn’t even 15 years old. They deceived him and told him to take responsibility [for the murder] and, in return, they will pay [his family] approximately $60,000-70,000 USD. He foolishly took responsibility for the crime. The judge just wrote whatever he wanted and did not take into consideration and record what my kid told him. The Supreme Court and [the head of] Judiciary upheld the sentence based on what the judge said. I tried a few times to obtain the consent [of the family of the victim], but they would call Police-110 (the unit specialized in rapid-response*), and they would take me [to the station] and hold me until midnight each time.

VOA: Why did the 110 unit come and take you?

Father: Because they would call them [110] and claim that I was harassing and disturbing them.

VOA: You mean, the family of the victim was doing this because you were trying to obtain their consent [to halt the execution]?

Father: Yes.

VOA: Was there ever a blood money amount set or requested?**

Father: No. There was no talk of blood money. This is unjust. There were four of them and he was under 15 years old. He was three months away from his fifteenth birthday. They told him if he takes responsibility then he wouldn’t be punished harshly because of his age, and they would help him. That is why he confessed.

VOA: Mr. Haddadi, does [Mohammad Reza] have a lawyer to follow up on his case?

Father: Yes. Mr. Mostafaei and Ms. Tahmasebi were his lawyers. However, when they sentenced him he only had a court-appointed lawyer who didn’t take any action.

VOA: Were you able to see Mohammad Reza recently?

Father: No. Every time I wanted to visit him, they would tell me there is no visitation, and I had to return home.

VOA: Where is he held right now?

Father: He is held in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz (in southwestern Iran). My request is, [since] this is an unjust Qesas, to have mercy on him and forgive him. The judicial officials have to take the others involved too. [Mohammad Reza's] mother has had heart attacks and is ill. His sister, upon hearing the news of the imminent execution of his brother [back in fall of 2009], set herself on fire. She is disabled as a result of her action. His other brother is also disabled and at home. I have no strength left [to face his death]. My hope is in you and in God.

According to news reports from Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran Mr. Behrouz Javid-Tehrani is on his 11th day of hunger strike in protest against the torture and in-humane treatment he is receiving in Section 1 of the Gohardasht Prison.

Mr. Javid-Tehrani was transferred to Section 1 of the prison, also known as the “dog house,” “the dark whole,” and “end of the road” on May 30th. According to “unconfirmed reports” Mr. Javid-Tehrani is in the worst cell in Section 1 of the prison, and has been subjected to physical torture at least on a number of occasions. The torture has been conducted by Hassan Akhriyan, the head of Section 1 of Gohardasht prison as well as other prison officials.

The cell in which Mr. Javid Tehrani is located is high above the ground and more susceptible to heat. Currently the temperature in Karaj is 40C and with no cooling facilities in the cells, Mr. Javid-Tehrani has lost consciousness on a number of occasions.

Prisoners in Section 1 are given only enough food to keep them alive; they are allowed to use the washroom facilities only three (3) times a day, and to shower once every two (2) weeks. According to this report Mr. Javid-Tehrani has lost a great deal of weight due to these inhumane prison conditions.

It should also be noted that on the order form for his transfer to solitary cells, it is indicated that he must remain there indefinitely and there is no indication as to when this “sentence” may end.

Mr. Javid-Tehrani is a pro-democracy activist who was originally arrested during the July 9th 1999 pro-democracy demonstrations in Iran. He was released briefly in 2004 however was re-arrested when he did not cease to continue his pro-democracy activities. He has been in prison for most of the past 11 years.
