Kurd political prisoner in danger of imminent execution

Civil rights activists in Sanandaj have announced that the death sentence of jailed Kurd student Habibollah Latifi was sent once again to the Sentence Implementation Unit after it was upheld by the Supreme Court.
His death sentence was to be carried out on December 26, 2009 but was halted after protests and gatherings outside of prison and requests by his lawyers.
According to reports from Kurdistan, this sentence was referred to the Supreme Court 7 months ago and was sent once again to the Sentence Implementation Unit after 24 hours.
A date has not been set for the execution of this student but as those informed about his case have noted, his sentence is subject to ‘discretionary time’ and can be carried out at any moment…
Habibollah Latifi was a senior student studying industrial engineering at the Ilam University and was arrested on October 23, 2007. He was sentenced to death on charges of ‘acting against national security and enmity with God’.

تائيد حکم اعدام حبيب الله لطيفي در ديوان عالي کشور

فعالان مدني در سنندج اعلام کرده‌اند که حکم اعدام حبيب الله لطيفي، دانشجوي زنداني کرد پس از تائيد توسط ديوان عالي کشور يک بار ديگر به دايره اجراي احکام رفته است.

حکم اعدام اين زنداني سياسي که قرار بود در ۵ دي ماه ۱۳۸۸ اجرا شود، بعد از اعتراض و تجمع مردم سنندج در مقابل زندان اين شهر و درخواست وکلاي او، در آستانه اجرا متوقف شد.

به گزارش منابع خبري در کردستان اين حکم در ۷ دي ماه سال گذشته به ديوان عالي کشور ارسال شده و پس از ۲۴ ساعت با تائيد حکم مجددا به دايره اجراي احکام دادگستري سنندج ارسال شده است.

زمان مشخصي براي اجراي حکم اين دانشجوي محکوم به اعدام تعيين نشده است، اما آنطور که مطلعان از اين پرونده خبر داده‌اند حکم وي مشمول «وقت احتياطي» شده و هر لحظه امکان اجراي آن وجود دارد....

حبيب‌الله لطيفي، دانشجوي سال آخر رشته مهندسي صنايع در دانشگاه ايلام، روز اول آبان سال ۱۳۸۶ بازداشت شد. او به اتهام «اقدام عليه امنيت ملي و محاربه» به اعدام محکوم شد. (خودنويس – 26/2/90)
