One month since his arrest and despite authorities’ promise to accept bail for his release, Abdollah Yousefzadegan still remains detained in the solitary confinement.
RAHANA- Officials in charge of Abdollah Yousefzadegan’s case had promised his family last week that he would be released on bail, based on which one of his relatives had traveled to Mashhad to submit the bail documents. However, officials have refused to accept the bail, arguing that his interrogations are not over and the bail order has not yet been issued.
Previously, more than 180 medal winners of national and international Olympiad competitions, university students of humanities and alumni of Farhang high schools (specialized in humanities), in a letter to Ayatollah Larijani, head of the Judiciary, had requested release of elite student Abdollah Yousefzadegan.
Abdollah Yousefzadegan is the gold medal winner in the National Literature Olympiad and an elite student of Law. He was arrested on March 16, 2010 at his house in Tehran and transferred to a detention center in Mashhad. The reason behind his transfer to Mashad remains unknown. In his last phone call , Yousefzadegan told his family that he is in good physical and mental conditions.
