Maryam Zia Summoned to the Revolutionary Court

According to the summon notice sent by branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court, women’s and children’s rights activist Maryam Zia has to attend her court hearing on Wednesday April 21, 2010.

According to the HRDAI, Maryam Zia is currently under treatment because of mental tortures applied by the Intelligence Ministry interrogators. She is also receiving medical treatment because of her 13 days of hunger strike in prison in protest to the continuation of her illegal and inhumane detention.

Maryam Zia and Reza Khandan are founders of an NGO called “A Better Life for Children”, a place in which children activists used to offer educational, health and food assistance to child laborers. Recently, the landlords of the NGO’s building has been pressured to change the lock of this building and transfer the money that NGO founders had paid to him as the deposit to the Intelligence Ministry’s account.

Women’s and children’s rights activist Maryam Zia is 40, married and has two children. She was arrested on December 31, 2009 by Intelligence Ministry officers and transferred to the solitary cells in ward 209 0f Evin prison.
