On sunday, Ahamdinejad met with u.n. secretary-general ban ki-moon to discuss developments in iraq, afghanistan and the middle eastNEW YORK (AP) - As Iranian President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad arrived in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly dozens of protesters demonstrated Sunday against his regime.
The protesters set up near Central Park and wore tape across their mouths to demonstrate what they said was the oppressive nature of the Iranian government.
"So the tape is to show that anyone who opposes Ahamdinejad is silenced," said Avi Posnick, regional coordinator of Stand With Us. "We're here in solidarity with the people of Iran who's voices cannot be heard."
The nonprofit Israeli education group Stand With Us organized the rally to bring awareness to what they call human rights abuses in Iran.
Protester Sahand Khoshbaten, a spokesman for the No To Ahamdinejad Committee, said his group supports democratic regime change in Iran, "which is what the people want."
"We believe that by means of the people themselves and Iran's main OPPOSITION group that we would be able to overthrow the Iranian government to establish democracy in that country," Khoshbaten said.
The protest was one of many expected in the week ahead, including another scheduled for Thursday across from the UN.

گروه عليه ديدار رئيس جمهور ايران از نيويورك اعتراض كرد
خبرگزاري آسوشيتد‌پرس، 29سپتامبر، 2010 - به‌قلم بوني قوش - احمدي‌نژاد روز يكشنبه با بان كيمون دبيركل ملل متحدملاقات كرد تا تحولات در عراق، افغانستان و خاورميانه را مورد گفتگو قراربدهد.
درحاليكه رئيسجمهور ايران براي جلسه مجمع عمومي ملل متحد وارد نيويورك شده؛ دهها تظاهركننده در روز يكشنبه عليه رژيم او دست به تظاهرات زدند.
تظاهر كنندگان در نزديكي پارك مركزي، نوارهاي روباني را در جلوي دهانشان بسته بودند تا نشان بدهند كه حرف آنها؛ نشاندهنده ماهيت سركوبگر حكومت ايران مي‌باشد.
آوي پوسنيك (avi posnick) هماهنگ كننده آكسيون ”با ما باشيد ”گفت بنابراين، اين روبان براي اين است كه؛ هر كسي كه با احمدي‌نژاد مخالف است سركوب مي‌شود. ما براي همبستگي با مردم ايران كه صدايشان شنيده نمي‌شود به اين‌جا آمده‌ايم.
يك گروه تحصيلي (فرهنگي) غيرانتفاعي اسراييلي بهنام استند ويت آس (با ما باشيد) كه اين تجمع را سازماندهي كرده با اين هدف است كه آنچه كه نقض حقوقبشر در ايران خوانده را افشا نمايد.
سهند خوش‌باطن از تظاهر كنندگان و يك سخنگوي كميته نه به احمدي‌نژاد گفت حاميان گروه او خواهان تغيير دموكراتيك رژيم هستند يعني همان چيزي كه مردم ايران خواهان آن مي‌باشند.
خوش باطن گفت ما معتقديم كه به دست خود مردم و گروه اپوزيسيون اصلي ايران، حكومت ايران سرنگون مي‌شود تا در ايران دموكراسي برقرارگردد.
اين اعتراض، يكي از چند حركتي است كه انتظار هست در آستانه هفته آتي برگزار مي‌شوند كه از جمله يك برنامه ديگر روز پنجشنبه در ملل متحد برنامه‌ريزي شده است.
به گفته سخنگوي دفتر ملل متحد، احمدي‌نژاد روز يكشنبه با بان كيمون دبيركل ملل متحد ملاقات كرد تا در مورد تحولات در عراق، افغانستان و خاورميانه علاوه بر تلاشها براي حل منازعه برنامه اتمي ايران گفتگو كند».
