According to The Committee of Human Rights Reporters the lawyer of Zeynab Jalalian, Kurdish prisoner sentenced to death, Dr. Mohammad Sharifi, after meeting with Tehran Prosecutor Jafari Dolatabadi on Monday July 5th announced: “I am optimistic about the prospect of her appeal.”
Dr. Mohammad Sharifi added: “During my meeting with the prosecutor, he decided that Jalalian should be transferred back to Kermanshah as her trial and sentencing took place in this city.”
Given the long distance from Kermanshah to Tehran, Jalalian has only been able to meet with her father once during the five months she has been behind bars at Evin prison. According to her lawyer Dr. Sharif, her transfer to Kermanshah will at least make it easier for her family to visit with her.
Dr. Sharif concluded that after his visit with Tehran’s prosecutor and reviewing this Kurdish political prisoner’s case, he is optimistic about the prospects of her appeal. It is worth mentioning that Jalalian’s brother was also present during the meeting with Tehran’s prosecutor.
Zeynab Jalalian has been in prison since 2007 for alleged links to PJAK, an armed Kurdish group. Reports point to the fact that she was sentenced to death after only a few minutes of deliberations by the court.
