No news on student activist one month after arrest

Ashkan Zahabian, a student activist and member of the Office for Consolidating Unity and Karroubi’s election staff during the 2009 presidential elections is still detained in a solitary cell in the Sari Intelligence Agency 34 days after his third arrest.
This student activist was arrested on May 2 following a request from the Intelligence Agency and the pressure subjected on his family to serve his 6 month prison term. He turned himself into the Intelligence Agency and was detained there but there have been no reports on his condition since then.
It is not clear why he was summoned to the Intelligence Agency to serve his 6 month prison term that he was sentenced to in absentia instead of prison. He was sentenced to prison on charges of ‘disrupting order, instigating the public to demonstrate and organizing protests in Mazandaran University’.
Ashkan said that he was safe in a telephone call to his family but his family has no information about why he was arrested and the new interrogations that will probably be used to pin new charges against him.
According to this report, there are concerns that he is under mental and physical pressure to make false confessions. The fact that he was arrested and kept in a solitary cell for such a long time shows that [security officials] are trying to pin new charges against this political activist.

بيش از يک ماه بي خبري از اشکان ذهابيان فعال دانشجويي

اشکان ذهابيان فعال دانشجويي دفتر تحکيم وحدت و عضو ستاد کروبي در انتخابات سال ٨٨، پس از گذشت ٣۴ روز از سومين بازداشتش، همچنان در بند انفرادي زندان اداره اطلاعات ساري در بازداشت به سر مي برد.

به گزارش جرس، اين فعال دانشجويي که در روز دوشنبه دوازدهم ارديبهشت سال جاري در پي درخواست اداره اطلاعات و فشار مداوم به خانواده اش و براي اجراي حکم شش ماهه خود به اداره ي اطلاعات ساري مراجعه کرده بود، در همان محل بازداشت شده و تا کنون اطلاعي از وضعيت او در دست نيست.

بر اساس اين گزارش، مشخص نيست که اين فعال دانشجويي براي اجراي حکم شش ماه حبسش که از بازداشت اول و به اتهام “اخلال در نظم” و “تحريک مردم به تظاهرات” و “سازماندهي اعتراضات در دانشگاه مازندران” به صورت غيابي صادر شده بود، ارديبهشت ماه امسال به اداره اطلاعات فراخوانده شده باشد، چرا که وي کماکان به صورت غير قانوني و به جاي منتقل شدن به زندان براي اجراي حکم، بازداشت و به سلول انفراي منتقل شده است.

همچنين آمده است: اشکان طي تماس هاي تلفني اش تنها از وضعيت سلامتي خود گفته و خانواده اش تا کنون هيچ اطلاعي از دليل بازداشت و بازجويي هاي دوباره و اتهام احتمالي در صورت تشکيل پرونده ي جديد ندارند.

بر اساس گزارش فوق، اين نگراني وجود دارد که او تحت فشارهاي روحي و جسمي براي گرفتن اعتراف هاي ساختگي باشد. زيرا بازداشت او و نگه داري طولاني مدتش در بند انفرادي در حالي که براي اجراي حکمش مراجعه کرده بود نشان از پرونده سازي و تفهيم اتهام جديد به اين فعال سياسي دارد. (كلمه – 14/3/90)
