Majid Tavakoli Suffering from Severe Abdominal Bleeding

HRANA – Majid Tavakoli, renowned student activist, is suffering from a severe case of abdominal bleeding while detained in Evin prison. Tavakoli’s physical condition is rapidly deteriorating and prison officials have not yet taken him to the hospital.

According to reports by HRANA, Tavakoli, who was recently transferred to ward 350 at Evin, a ward void of medical facilities, was suffering from a severe cough that led to abdominal bleeding. In the past week, Tavakoli has also suffered from continuous nose bleeds. Prison officials have ignored Tavakoli’s deteriorating health, despite concerns raised by other prison mates.

During a short interview with HRANA, Ali Tavakoli announced that his brother’s physical condition is dire and stems from a lung infection that began as a result of his dry hunger strike and the difficult conditions while he endured while he was detained in solitary confinement in ward 240 of Evin prison.

Based on a very short 30 second phone conversation with her son, Tavakoli’s mother also described his condition as dire and expressed much concern for his wellbeing. Majid informed his mother during this last phone conversation that it is very probable that he will not be able to make any phone contact in the foreseeable future.

It is highly likely that Tavakoli’s condition worsened as a result of the current construction efforts and over crowding in ward 350, which forced prisoners to sleep in corridors. In addition the lack of proper and timely medical treatment, the poor quality and insufficient amount of food and the temporary shutting off of gas and water led to extreme conditions and further distress of the prisoners held in this ward.

In the past week reports surfaced by various news agencies that the prisoners in ward 350 have been forced into labor as a result of the construction efforts.

Majid Tavakoli, a former student at Amirkabir University in Tehran was arrested and sentenced to eight and a half years in prison since his arrest on December 7, 2009.

خبرگزاری هرانا – مجید توکلی، فعال سرشناس دانشجویی در زندان دچار خونریزی شدید معده شده؛ مسئولان وی را تاکنون به بیمارستان منتقل نکردند و بر همین اساس وضعیت سلامتی وی وخیم است.
بنا به اطلاع گزارشگران هرانا، آقای توکلی که به تازگی به بند 350 زندان اوین که فاقد هرگونه امکانات پزشکی می باشد، منتقل شده بر اثر سرفه های شدید و عدم رسیدگی پزشکی دچار خونریزی شده است.
وی طی یک هفته ی اخیر مکررا دچار خون دماغ شده بود اما مسئولان زندان در برابر خواسته ی دیگر زندانیان مبنی بر رسیدگی به وضعیت حاد این زندانی سیاسی بی تفاوت بودند.
علی توکلی، در مصاحبه ی کوتاهی با گزارشگر هرانا، حال برادر خود را بسیار وخیم گزارش کرده است و مشکل ایشان را مربوط به بیماری ریه ای که به دلیل شرایط سخت زندان و خصوصا اعتصاب غذا در سلول انفرادی 240 به آن مبتلا شده بود، عنوان کرده است.
مادر آقای توکلی براساس تماسی 30 ثانیه ای که با فرزند دربند خود داشته است، وضعیت وی را بسیار بد توصیف کرده و نگران وی شده است؛ مجید در این تماس یادآور شده که ممکن است تا چندی موفق به برقراری تماس با ایشان نشود.
به نظر می رسد تشدید بیماری وی در اثر عمليات ساختماني و ازدحام بيش از حد زندانيان در بند 350 – خوابيدن در راهرو ها و كريدور – به وجود آمده است. وضعيت اسفبار بهداشتي، عدم درمان مناسب و به موقع، نامناسب و بي كيفيت بودن غداهاي اين بند، قطع گاز و آب براي مدتي محبوسين را دچار مشكلات جدي كرده است.
در هفته گذشته اخباری مبنی بر بیگاری زندانیان محبوس در بند 350، به دلیل ساخت و ساز در درون زندان از سوی خبرگزاری های مختلف منتشر شده است.
مجید توکلی، دانشجوی کشتی سازی دانشگاه پلی تکنیک تهران از 16 آذر ماه سال گذشته تاکنون در زندان به سر می برد و با حکم سنگین هشت و نیم سال حبس تعزیری مواجه است.
