IRAN weekly HR report 1st Week Dec: Basic freedom and rights abused

The youngest jailed blogger in the world kept under appalling condition in prison
While the case of Navid Mohebi, blogger and member of the One Million Signature Campaign (advocating women’s rights) was seen to on November 14 in the Amol Revolutionary Court, he has been transferred to the youth cellblock in Amol Prison and is kept in a cell with a convicted murderer.
This cellblock is very crowded and prisoners are not kept in separate cells according to their crimes. There are 700 prisoners in this cellblock which only has the capacity for 500 prisoners and the sanitary and food conditions are very unsuitable.
Mohebi’s trial was held without his lawyer and with the presence of his father. He was charged with, ‘acting against national security, insulting the founder and current leader of the Islamic Republic, propagating against the government by having communications with foreign media and being a member of the One-Million Signature Campaign and supporting its other members’. The court cited a diary which he kept when he was 12 to 16 years of age as proof that he had ‘insulted the founder and leader of the Islamic Republic’.
Mohebi has been jailed since September 18. He was arrested by 8 security forces that raided his home in Amol. He was reportedly severely beaten upon his arrest and his family was threatened at gun point by security forces.
Some time ago, Reporters without Borders named Navid Mohebi the ‘youngest jailed blogger in the world’. (Jaras Website – Nov. 30, 2010)
