Babol University Student Nima Nahvi on Hunger Strike

RAHANA: Nima Nahvi has started a hunger strike to protest the failure of the authorities to transfer him to his hometown prison, the denial of his conditional release request considering the fact that he has served half of his sentence, and his transfer to the high risk criminal ward. He has stated that his hunger strike will continue until he is transferred to his hometown prison which should have been done based on the prison regulations.
Reliable sources have told the RAHANA reporter that in response to a letter from Nahvi family that requested Nima’s transfer to his hometown prison, the authorities referred them to the Babol Intelligence Ministry. Upon their arrival at the Ministry, they were treated with disrespect.
Sources also stated that now that the student detainees in the security ward of Matikala Prison have served their sentences ( Iman Sadighi, Mohsen Barzegar, Moshfegh Samandari, Hossein Jalil-Natayej, and Mohammad Esmaelzadeh), the pressure has exacerbated on the other student activists. Since the time their physical torture has ended, they are under pressure and deprived of their basic rights. Some of them have been awaiting the decision of the Mazandaran Appeals Court for over a year and some are expecting the verdicts of the revolutionary court in the different cities of the Province. This has prevented many from continuing their education, military service and employment.
Nima Nahvi is a student activist in the Noshirvani Babol University of Technology and has been detained 3 times. Following the disputed presidential election, he was sentenced to 10 months of imprisonment for acting against national security and anti-regime propaganda and a one year ban from continuing his education. He has served more than 5 months of his sentence and based on the prison regulations he should be conditionally released since he has served half of his sentence. The security and Intelligence organizations of the Province have deprived him of his basic rights.
