Doctor and human rights activist sentenced to 6 years of prison and 74 lashes

The second court sentence for Akbar Karami, jailed doctor, writer and human rights activist after eight months of prison was issued for him and this activist was sentenced to another three years of prison in addition to his current 3 year prison term. He was also sentenced to 74 lashes and five years of banishment to a desolate town and according to the court, his medical permit will be annulled in this time.
According to reports, Karami who was trialed on July 13 was charged with ‘insulting the president and members of the Guardian Council’ for which he was sentenced to 74 lashes and ’publishing lies with the intention of creating anxiety for the public’ for which he was sentenced to two year of prison. He was also sentenced to one year of prison for encouraging corruption and prostitution (sexual liberty). The judge of the 10th branch of the Revolutionary Court in Qom also obligated him to live in the town of Khormouj for five years and ordered that his medical permit be annulled by the Medical Science University…
This activist was arrested on November 24, 2009 after security forces stormed his home and clinic and he was kept in prison in an undetermined state despite his constant appeals to judicial officials.

اکبر کرمي، پزشک و فعال حقوق بشري، به ۶ سال حبس و ۷۴ ضربه شلاق و تبعيد محکوم شد
حکم دادگاه دوم اکبر کرمي، پزشک، نويسنده و فعال حقوق بشري دربند، پس از گذشت هشت ماه بازداشت وي صادر شد و اين کنشگر، علاوه بر حکم سه سال زندان دادگاه اول، به سه سال زندان ديگر و ۷۴ ضربه شلاق تعزيري و ۵ سال تبعيد به شهرستاني دورافتاده محکوم گرديد و طبق راي دادگاه، طي اين مدت پروانه طبابت وي لغو خواهد شد.
به گزارش منابع خبري جرس، دادگاه دوم اکبر کرمي، در تاريخ ٢٢ تيرماه ۸۹ برگزار شد و وي به اتهام "توهين به رئيس جمهور واعضاي شوراي نگهبان" به تحمل ۷۴ ضربه شلاق تعزيري، "نشر اکاذيب به قصد اضرار به غير يا تشويش اذهان عمومي" به تحمل دو سال حبس به احتساب ايام بازداشت قبلي و بابت اشاعه و تشويق به فساد وفحشا (آزادي جنسي) به تحمل يک سال حبس با احتساب ايام بازداشت قبلي محکوم گرديد و قاضي شعبه ١۰١دادگاه انقلاب قم، نامبرده را به مدت پنج سال، ملزم به اقامت اجباري (تبعيد) در شهرستان خورموج نمود و دستور داد پروانه طبابت وي نيز، طي اين مدت، توسط دانشگاه علوم پزشکي لغو شود...
اين کنشگرِ حقوق بشري، سوم آذر ماه سال گذشته در پي يورش مأموران امنيتى – نظامى به مطب و منزلش، بازداشت شده و از آن روز تا کنون، با تمام‏ پى‏گيرى‏ها و دادخواست‌هاي مکرر به مسئولان قضايي، همچنان بلاتکليف در زندان نگهداري مي شد. (جرس – 21/5/89)
